Genesis 2:2 says that on the seventh day God rested from all his work. Today is our Sabbath day as well. It is time to take a break from our work and have a day of regrouping.
The safari vans come to pick us up at 9:00 am and we are off to the Arusha National Park. We get there around 10 and are greeted by stunning views of Mt Meru. This mountain dominates while Kilimanjaro is also seen. Both are overwhelming. I could probably include a hundred different perspectives here of Mt Meru, but let this one be the one you get to see.
Before heading into the wild it is a good idea to do a quick last minute vehicle inspection.
And then we are off.
Our first sighting of giraffes with zebra in the background is an absolute delight.
Monkeys along the road were also worthy of a stop.
After a bit of a drive we park the vehicle and go for an hour walk in the park. A guide with a massive rifle joins us, we assume to protect us from the wildlife, but I can’t help but wonder if it might not also be to protect the wildlife from us.
As we enter the valley we come across a herd of cape buffalo. These are not an animal to mess around with, especially if you come between them and their calf.
More giraffe
warthogs
zebra
waterbucks
and bushbucks.
There were also many different species of birds
and I can’t forget to mention the baboons.
All in all, a most enjoyable day. Loads of fun. Much laughter. Dust!
Showers followed by dinner at the Mt Meru Hotel. Shocking contrasts.
